Tata owned Land Rover stated that it is working on compact Range Rover with two-wheel drive powered by diesel engine. Land Rover models are usually synonymous with 4WD but now it will introduce a new 2WD, which will be the lightest and most fuel efficient Range Rover by 2011 in the Indian market. The model will be based on LRX concept.

“A two-wheel drive option is just one way in which we are developing our vehicles’ efficiency whilst adding to the Land Rover range and expanding our customer base,” said Land Rover’s managing director, Phil Popham. “We will continue to make the ‘worlds finest all-terrain vehicles’ for those customers who require four-wheel drive but will also now offer an alternative to those that don’t.”

According to Land Rover spokesperson, the current Range Rover 4WD model delivers fuel efficiency of 17 kmpl but the new 2WD will have fuel efficiency of 20 kmpl. The vehicle will also emit less than 130g/km of carbon dioxide, making it the lightest, most fuel-efficient Range Rover ever.
