Mitsubishi India is gearing up to launch the new Pajero Sports in India. As per reports, the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) will be introduced in the Indian market on 12th March 2012. Although the company displayed the Pajero Sports at the 11th New Delhi Auto Expo, it did not disclose any details regarding its launch due to floods in Thailand. After resuming capacity, Mitsubishi has decided to launch the new SUV.
The car maker disclosed that the new Pajero Sports will be loaded with a 2.5 litre turbocharged diesel engine capable of generating output of 135 bhp and churn torque of 320 Nm. Pajero Sports will be offered in both 2WD and 4WD options and the engine will be mated with a 5 speed manual transmission system. The company has not confirmed the availability of an automatic gearbox in the car. All-Wheel Control Super Select 4WD mechanism present in the vehicle will make it a powerful off-roader.
Pajero Sports 2012 is reported to be equipped with projector headlamps, air-conditioning vents for all rows, reverse camera, two-DIN touch screen with six speakers, and parking sensors. Antilock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), and driver and passenger airbags will also be present in the vehicle.
In the initial stages, the SUV will be available as Completely Built Unit (CBU) with a price tag of Rs. 24 lacs. In the future, the Japanese car maker plans to import CKD kits and assemble the Pajero Sports at the Tamil Nadu facility of Hindustan Motors. By entering India, Pajero Sports will give tough competition to Chevrolet Captiva and Toyota Fortuner to make its mark.
