Maruti launched a brand new variant of SX4 which not only has a new BS IV compliant engine but is also available with automatic transmission. The new model is priced above Rs. 7 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The latest model features honey-comb grille, dual tone dash board, 10 spoke stylish alloy wheels and wooden finish on the arm rests on the door. The exteriors remain the same and only the interiors seem to be revamped.
The new VVT engine is compliant with the new emission norms that come into effect from April 2010. It develops 103.25bhp at 5600rpm and 145Nm at 4100rpm and with a competitive price tag it is set to compete with Honda City in its sedan segment.
Maruti had temporarily stopped production of SX4 and some of the dealers expected it to be phased out. It had very poor mileage that did not let it record good sales figures. This is the reason that Maruti had not launched the AT version earlier. With a new VVT engine which is more fuel efficient, the company now intends to clock good sales with the new model.
