The next-generation 2016 Toyota Fortuner is likely to make its global debut on July 28th 2015. According to a report, Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT) is planning to organize an “important press conference” on July 28th that might see unveiling of the new Hilux-based SUV and India-bound 2016 Fortuner.

Ever since its launch in 2009, the Fortuner hasn’t received any major update. But the new-gen model will get both mechanical and design changes.Set to rival against the upcoming new-generation Ford Endeavour and Chevrolet Trailblazer, the next-generation Fortuner will be launched in India in 2016.

Based on a new ladder-frame platform, the 2016 Fortuner will be lighter and stiffer than the current model. On the front end, the SUV features the new-gen Innova-inspired sharply stretched windscreen, pronounced chrome grille and longer headlight pods. The rear profile, too, looks refreshing with a wraparound rear windscreen and few more styling changes.

With updated braking system and additional safety features, the new model will be safer than the existing version. The new-gen Fortuner will continue to come with a 3.0-litre and a 2.5-litre diesel engines. While the former delivers a maximum power of 168.9bhp at 3, 600rpm and 360Nm of torque between 1400rpm – 3200rpm, the latter offers 142.1bhp at 3, 400rpm and 343Nm at 1, 600rpm – 2, 800rpm. That said, the 3.0-litre engine could be tweaked for extra power output, i.e. 187bhp.
