The Japanese automaker, Mitsubishi has teased the new-generation Mitsubishi Pajero Sport ahead of its global debut on August 1, 2015. Set to rival the upcoming new-gen Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavor, the Indian model of the SUV will continue to be assembled at HMFCL (Hindustan Motor Finance Corp’s) Tiruvallur plant from the imported CKD kits.

Ditching the existing 2.5-litre DI-D diesel engine, the 2016 Pajero Sport will feature an all-new 2.4-litre MIVEC diesel engine that also powers the new L200. It develops a maximum power of 181PS and 430Nm of torque. This engine is paired to a 6-speed manual and an automatic transmission, combined with 2WD (two-wheel drive) and optional 4WD (four-wheel drive) system. Designed on the RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution safety body), the new-gen Pajero Sport is claimed to be more robust and safer than the existing model.

The SUV will receive an all-new front fascia that sports a ‘Dynamic Shield’ design with the GR-HEV-inspired X-shaped grille and small headlight clusters. The headlamps could get LED elements. At the rear end, it gets the vertically-stacked light clusters. Though, the dimensions will remain unchanged. Based the ladder-frame chassis, the new Pajero Sport will offer better cabin space and improved handling.

The 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is expected to be launched in India by end of 2016 or early 2017.
