Ford Motors un-wrapped it’s all new 2012 Fiesta in the Indian auto market on 28th February 2012. Auto experts earlier speculated that the price of its base variant will be probably modified. Proving them right, post launch of Fiesta, the company officials hinted that the price of new Fiesta will be slightly decreased by introducing a new version with lower engine configuration.
After the launch of new 2012 Ford Fiesta, all the hypes of auto aficionados were shattered, since the price of the entry level variant was kept quite high. Speculations for bringing down the price of base variant of new Ford Fiesta became vivid when Mr Nigel Wark, the Sales and Marketing Director of Ford India intervened in the whole scenario. He commented that competing with Hyundai, Volkswagen, and Honda in Indian market with this price range will not be an easy task. Therefore, the Ford officials need to rethink, plan new strategies and review other available options.
He further added, "While we sold the car on its technology and capability, the perception is that we do not have an entry point at Rs. 8.23 lacs. We will do a review of a whole range of options. Margins are very tight. The profitability is hit by the slowdown in the petrol car market, rising input costs as well as the huge discounts."
As far as the engine configuration of newly launch Ford Fiesta is concerned, the company has incorporated a 1.5-litre Ti VCT petrol engine in its new car. This performance oriented engine has enough potential to churn out an impressive power of 140 bhp with a peak torque at 140 Nm. To add in the capabilities of this engine, it is powered with a powerShift automatic transmission system having dual clutch technology. However, the new version which the company is planning to launch in the market will have lower specifications than this model.
