Much ahead of its Europe launch slated for early 2015, British car marquee, Land Rover unveiled the all new Discovery Sport recently. The all new Discovery Sport will mark its global debut in 170 prominent automotive markets early next year. India is also likely to get the SUV; launch could happen by July 2015. This is the first model from new Discovery range to be launched first. The heritor of Freelander, new Discovery Sport is an entry-level SUV that has taken inspiration by the Discovery Vision Concept. Company claims that the vehicle will be offered in 5+2 seating layout, though there will be no dimensional modifications. Courtesy the approach, departure and breakover angles of 25, 31 and 21 degrees respectively, the Terrain response system and its capability to wade a depth of 600 mm the new Land Rover Discovery Sport is expected to be a capable off-roader.
New Discovery Sport is expected to come with two, four cylinder engine options including a 2.0 litre, turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.2 litre diesel engine. Expect either a nine-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox synchronized to the engines. The vehicle will be offered in two wheel drive and four wheel drive variants. A Start-Stop system will be fitted to both the engines.
Feature list comprise of preeminent equipments such as a pedestrian airbag, autonomous emergency braking, and a bodyshell featuring “ultra-high-strength steel” and “lightweight aluminium”, Head-Up Display, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and tilt-and-slide row-two seating.
Land Rover will manufacture new Discovery Sport at its manufacturing unit located in Halewood U.K. As for the pricing, U.S pricing Discovery Sport will be made available at a starting price of 37,995 USD equivalents to Rs 23.02 lakh. The SUV will compete with rivals including Audi Q5, Mercedes M Class and BMW X3.
