Mercedes-Benz, this month, rolled out its 100,000 car in the country from their Chakan plant – 22 years after it first began production in India.

The Three-Pointed Star marque becomes the first luxury carmaker in India to achieve this one lakh production milestone for its locally produced vehicles. It took 13 years for Mercedes to produce the first 20,000 cars from the Chakan plant in 2008 and then another two years to reach the 30,000 units in 2010. The 50,000th car was rolled out in 2014 and now, in just four years’ time, the number of units has doubled.

Speaking about this production milestone, Roland Folger, managing director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said, “The rollout of the 100,000th Mercedes-Benz vehicle in India is a strong testimony of the impeccable customer trust and the unsurpassable brand equity Mercedes-Benz enjoys in this dynamic country. This achievement also reiterates Mercedes-Benz’s India commitment and we strongly believe in the India story and it’s potential. We will further deepen our strong connect with the Indian customers and keep continuing to fascinate them with our products and customer service.”

Mercedes-Benz produces almost their entire line-up at the Chakan facility since 1995. The first car to be produced was the W124 E-Class. Now, the plant produces CLA, GLA; C-Class, E-Class, S-Class sedans and the GLC, GLE, GLS SUVs apart from the flagship Mercedes-Maybach S560. The plant is spread over 100 acres. It is part of Mercedes-Benz’s Global Production Network outside Germany. The plant also boasts of the largest spare parts warehouse by the luxury car manufacturer in India. The warehouse can stock up to 44,000 parts.

Folger further added, “With the growing demand of Mercedes-Benz products, a spiralling aspiration among young successful Indians, our extensive and expanding local portfolio, combined with an unparalleled network and innovations in customer service; we are positive that the next production milestone will be attained even earlier.”
