Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) that recently launched the Baleno premium hatchback, is now planning to roll out the Vitara (codenamed - YBA) compact SUV by April, 2016. The company has confirmed that the compact SUV will make its Indian debut at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. With Renault Duster and Hyundai Creta in its sight, the Maruti’s compact SUV will be priced under Rs. 10 lakh. Similar to the S-Cross and Baleno, the Maruti Vitara will be sold through the company’s Nexa dealerships.
The Maruti Suzuki Vitara could be made available with two engine options - a 1.4-litre VVT petrol and a 1.3-litre Multijet diesel – that produce a maximum power of 83.11bhp with 115Nm of torque, and 89bhp with 200Nm respectively. These are the same powertrains that do duty to the Ciaz. The company might also offer a 1.6-litre Multijet diesel engine that powers the S-Cross. Transmission options on offer will be a manual (standard) and a CVT (only on the petrol variant).
The India-bound Vitara will share the platform with XA Alpha concept, which was unveiled at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. Though, the design cues will be borrowed from the iV-4 concept that was showcased at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. The car might feature sweptback headlamps, a mesh grille, body-coloured bumper, prominent wheel arches, floating C-pillars and raking windscreen. The compact SUV is likely to draw its interior design inspiration from the Baleno hatchback. Features on offer could be reverse parking camera, a touchscreen infotainment system, push start and stop, airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system), keyless entry and exit, etc.
