Automaker Maruti Suzuki India Limited still remains the uncrowned king of the Indian domestic market and its models like Maruti Swift, Swift Dzire, Eeco continue to have long waiting periods. The company intends to reduce the waiting time for its customers in order to gain momentum in sales. Maruti senses its monopoly to be threatened in the Indian market and feels that it may soon be over if it is not able to make faster deliveries. People turn to more available Forg Figo or Chevrolet Beat rather than waiting for a Maruti vehicle for as long at 6 weeks.

Maruti is planning to set up regional stockyards across the country to make its cars more available. This will not only reduce the waiting period but will lessen the burden on dealerships that need to maintain large inventories to cater to the demand.

MSIL will invest Rs. 200 crores in setting up such regional stockyards that will be spread over 25 acres area. One of the first stockyards is coming up near Bangalore. The intention is to set up at least one stockyard in each of the zones, North, South, East and West. "Such a concept is important for a vast country like India and will reduce the waiting period for the customers. Very often there is a mismatch between the variant and color of a particular car that a customer wants and the car that is available at the dealership. Setting up regional stockyards will increase availability of the cars and reduce time of transportation,” said official statement from the company.
