      Maruti to recall 1.5 lakh units of Swift Dzire over defect in fuel neck filler

      Speculations are rife that India’s largest car maker,MarutiSuzuki India will conduct a recall for its popular compact sedan SwiftDzire. Around 1.5lakhunits of the vehicle manufactured between year 2013 and 2014 will be recalled. The recall is being conducted to replace fuel neck filler which is connected to the fuel tank. This is probably the biggest recall to be conducted by any car maker in the country for a single model.Marutisources fuel neck filler fromJBM, the company holds some stake inJBM.MSIhas informed the supplier regarding the defect in the component; sources reveal that some of the affected units are yet in the dealerships. A little ago in November 2013, the company had recalled 1,492 units of its vehicles includingDzire, Swift,Ertigaand A-Star for defect in steering column.

      Back in February 2010, the company had recalled 1lakhmodels of its hatchback, A-Star over faulty fuel pump gasket. Among the 1lakhmodels recalled, export units were also included.

      MarutiSuzuki India bid adieu to Fiscal year 2014 on a low note as company registered an insignificant growth of 0.3 % in last fiscal. Maruti’s new entrant in hatchback segment,Celeriohas been received well by the customers in India. Launched in February 2014, the hatchback has gained popularity over its availability in AMT gearbox. Afaceliftedversion ofDzireand Swift will also be launched this year during the festive season. Besides these, the company will also bring newCiazsedan in mid-sized sedan segment.Ciazis said to be the replacement of SX4 sedan which had been registering low sales over last few months, the vehicle’s sales dropped by 54.5 per cent in March 2014.
