While the country’s largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is endeavouring to offset the loss suffered from production stoppage post the violence outburst at its Manesar facility, efforts are also directed to take the tally of workforce to the optimum level required for operating the plant at full capacity.

The recruitment initiative has been undertaken owing to the termination of the 500 permanent workers, who triggered the company’s worst ever labour unrest in the country. The automaker is now determined to hire the services of trained workers for the Manesar plant. Since the availability of skilled labour being scarce, the company is facing difficulties in restoring the full fledged production and allied operations. However, the set deadline for the company to pick up full capacity production is by the end of the current month.

As a part of this recruitment drive, the company conducted one round of written assessment of the prospective candidates but the result was not found encouraging. The company has confirmed that either the applied candidates are not proficient or are not self-encouraged to take up the job.

In a bid to avoid greater dependence on manpower, Maruti is considering to install automation of major processes to the tune of 99 percent to ensure more production and quality productivity.

Recently, the company took initiative in imparting self-defence techniques to its officials by hiring martial arts instructor along with providing training to senior officials in regards to tactfully handling of violent situations on site.
