Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the much-awaited Celerio diesel in India tomorrow. The hatchback will feature the company’s self-developed 793cc twin-cylinder DDiS diesel engine, which is claimed to offer a high torque/cc and a fuel economy of 27.62kmpl (ARAI - rated figure). Upon its launch, the Celerio diesel will become the most fuel efficient diesel car in the country. Just so you know, the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, currently, is India’s most frugal diesel car that returns a fuel economy of 26.6kmpl.

The Celerio’s 793cc twin-cylinder DDiS diesel engine develops a maximum power of 47bhp at 3, 500rpm and 125Nm of torque at 2, 000rpm. It will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and a hydraulic clutch. This powertrain weighs 89kgs that makes it lightest diesel unit in its league. The same diesel engine, later on, will power other small Maruti Suzuki cars and an upcoming LCV.
