Alto 800, the latest entry-level small car offering from Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has become the country's best selling car, since more than 44,000 units have been booked already, in just over a month of its launch. MSIL introduced its much hyped successor to the iconic 'Maruti 800' city car on October 16, 2012 amid some intense speculations and automobile media coverage. Evidently, the Alto 800 has lived up to its hype and has been breaking all the advanced bookings and number of vehicles delivered on a single day records with an utmost ease.

MSIL, the country's favourite passenger car maker, has reported that more than half of 44,000 units booked have already been delivered to their respective buyers. Reportedly, sales in tier-I and tier-II Indian cities have contributed to a major portion of the overall sales of Alto 800 entry-level car in the country. Much of the sales have been recorded in lesser known towns of Indian states, for instance Mallapuram in Kerala, where a Maruti Suzuki dealer delivered 200 units of Alto 800 small car on a single day in October 2012.

The company claimed that over 10,000 units of Alto 800 were booked in advance, that is prior to the car's official launch on domestic turf, a fact which highlights faith and respect for the car maker among Indian car enthusiasts. The company had not revealed any technical specifications or pictures of its new car and domestic audience booked their Alto 800 models solely on the basis of Maruti Suzuki's high opinion in the country. It has been reported that the country's largest seller of passenger cars had delivered close to 2,000 units of Alto 800 on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras (November 11, 2012) alone, just ahead of Diwali festival.

The 2012 Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 has been a success in Indian metropolitans as well due to its phenomenal coming-of-age image makeover and incredible fuel efficiency in both of its petrol and dual fuel petrol-CNG variants. The company claims that Alto 800 is capable of running around 22 km on a single litre of petrol, while its petrol-CNG variant delivers an astonishing fuel economy close to 30 km per litre. The future looks bright for both MSIL and Alto 800 in the Indian passenger car market, besides the latest entry-level looks certain to become next 'Maruti 800' in the country.
