      Maruti sales increased 17% in December 2010

      The country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India on Tuesday reported a sales jump of over 17 percent for the month of Dec 2010. The company sold a total of 99,225 units of its cars during this month as compared to the 84,804 units sold in the same month last year.

      In the domestic market, the company sold a total of 89,469 units during this month as against 71,000 units sold in December 2009, accounting for a sales growth of 26.01 per cent.

      However, the company’s exports fell by 29.32 per cent to 9,756 units as compared to 13,804 units dispatched to the foreign markets in Dec 2009.

      The sales of company’s oldest small car M800 dipped sharply by 30.15 per cent to 1,798 units during this month as compared to 2,574 units sold in the same month last year.

      Segment wise, the sales of A2 segment (including Alto, Wagon R, A-Star, Estilo, Swift and Ritz) stood at 64,492 units as against 52,236 units sold in the same month last year, accounting for a growth of 23.46 per cent. On the other hand, the A3 segment (including SX4 and Dzire) witnessed a 19.37 per cent growth to 9,362 units as compared to 7,843 units sold in Dec last year.

      In the first 9 months of this financial year, the company sold a total of 9,27,665 units of its cars as against 7,30,943 units sold in same period last year, registering a sales growth of 26.91 per cent.
