Despite a series of launches and new entrants in the Indian domestic market, Maruti Suzuki’s market share had dipped below 50 percent earlier this year. Now the company has once again brought its market share above 50 percent, reveal the recent figures from SIAM.

According to figures released by the Society of Indian Automobile manufacturers (SIAM), MSI sold 91,754 units of passenger cars out of a total market of 1,82,992 units, garnering 50.14 per cent market share. These figures do not include exports or sales of utility vehicles. “This (50% mark) is especially important considering large volume base of company—selling over a lakh (100,000) units a month,” a company spokesperson said.

MSIL has already increased its production and has reduced waiting time on its popular models including Alto, Swift, Swift Dzire and Ritz. India is among the fastest growing markets for automobiles with an economy projected to grow at 8.5% which has boosted both incomes and consumer spending. MSIL still remains the strongest player especially in the domestic market which is primarily a small car dominated market.
