Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, has welcomed the decision of Maruti Suzuki to establish their manufacturing plant in Gujarat. Mr. Modi said that Maruti’s move of setting-up a new plant in Gujarat will further accelerate the auto sector growth in the state.
While commenting on the development, Mr. Modi said on Twitter, "I welcome Maruti Suzuki's decision to come to Gujarat. Gujarat is moving ahead fast as Asia's auto hub. With Maruti, the pace will accelerate." He added, it’s Gujarat's New Year and this is Maruti's gift to Gujarat on this occasion.
On Saturday, Maruti Suzuki India Board gave the approval of acquiring the land in Mehsana district of Gujarat for its third manufacturing unit. The company has already announced to invest a sum of up to Rs 18,000 crore in Gujarat along with its vendors, for the establishment of this plant. The firm is planning to acquire a land of over 500 acres for the plant along with 500 acres for its vendors.
It is to be mentioned here that Maruti already has two manufacturing units in Haryana, one each in Gurgaon and Manesar. The total manufacturing capacity of the firm is over 12 lakh units per annum which include 8.5 lakh units per annum at Gurgaon plant and over 3.5 at Manesar plant. The company has recently started its second manufacturing unit at Manesar facility.
