Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has been a preferred pick in the MUV segment in the country owing to low cost of ownership, efficiency and reliability. For a while now, news had been doing rounds that Maruti Suzuki has been planning on launching a bigger 1.5 Liter diesel engine in the Ertiga MUV. The introduction of a powerful engine will aid Maruti Suzuki in competing with brands like Ford, Volkswagen, Honda and Renault in the country.
As of now Maruti Suzuki has been using the 1.3 litre MultiJet engine from Fiat for its existing fleet of diesel cars in the country. With a bigger engine, customers can have a wider option to select trims as per their requirements. It is also said that a new 800cc twin cylinder diesel engine from Suzuki has reached an advanced stage of development and likely to make a debut soon. The 1.5 Liter engine is likely to attract excise duty benefits post launch in India. Technical specification is unknown for now and may be known at a later date when the company speaks more in detail about the new engine.
