Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., the country’s pioneer in utility vehicle production, is introducing a new entrant in the charismatic SUV segment christened as Mahindra Quanto. Since the Quanto will foray as a compact SUV, the car buyers in the Indian auto market are longing for its launch as it has an edge over its competitors in terms of price. The automaker has confirmed to roll out the Quanto SUV in India on 20th September this year and will disclose the technical as well as price details on the launch date.
Mahindra Quanto is essentially a mini version of the automaker’s flagship MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), Mahindra Xylo and in a bid to restrict the imposition of additional duties ad keep the prices competitive, the company has limited the size of the new SUV under 4 meters.
Though, the Quanto will be positioned in the SUV segment, the vehicle with its compact design aesthetics places itself beneficially in the hatchback and MPV segment. With the launch of this new compact SUV, the company missions to grab the same exponential demand as witnessed by its elder sibling, Xylo.
The launch of Mahindra’s XUV500 in the year 2011 witnessed robust bookings and multi-fold sales. Mr. Pawan Goenka, President – Automotive & Farm Equipment Sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra commented that even the Mahindra Quanto is anticipated to attract the same magnificent response with at least a sales of 1,500 to 2,000 units a month.
The seven seater SUV is expected to be powered with a robust 1.5L three cylinder twin turbo diesel engine mated with five speed manual transmission. Estimated to be priced in the range of Rs. 6 lakhs, the SUV will boast safety features such as twin airbags, ABS and EBD on the top end variants.
