Mahindra Two Wheelers Limited has proclaimed that its highly anticipated global scooter will be named ‘GUTSO’. The company confirmed that GUSTO will be launched in Western and Northern India and Nepal on September 29 followed by launch in Southern and Eastern India along with South Asia, Central America and Africa in upcoming months. Officials at Mahindra also informed that the scooter has been designed at the company’s R&D facility located in Pune. Throwing some light on the name of the scooter, Rajesh Jejurikar, Chief Executive – Farm Equipment & Two Wheeler Division & Member of the Group Executive Board said that it has been derived from the word ‘gust’ that signifies an abrupt intense current of wind, representing the spirit of freedom.
As for the technical details of the two wheeler, it will house an all Aluminium M-TEC engine fitted with features like a robust crankshaft and bearings, high inertia magneto, high energy HT coil and series regulator. Presence of these features enables the engine to yield excellent power, efficiency and reliability.
The styling of GUSTO is rooted in Italy and it has been conceived on copious research and feedback received from customers.
