Amidst the ongoing high growth momentum in the Indian auto market, the leading luxury car makers are struggling to meet the whooping demand for their cars in the country. The waiting period for the hot favorites such as BMW X1, Audi A8, Porsche Cayenne and Mercedes S500, has reached up to six months, as a large number of buyers opting for these new age luxury cars.

In year 2010, the premium car segment grew at unprecedented rate of 70% to about 15,000 units, forcing luxury car makers to enhance their production capacities. According to a recent statement given to ET, Mr. Debashish Mitra, Director (sales and marketing) at Mercedes Benz India, said, “While luxury carmakers stretched their best to meet the growth, demand far outstripped supply.”

Not only in India, but in the global market too, the leading luxury car makers such as Mercedes, BMW and Audi are producing cars at their full capacity to catch-up with the upward shooting demand for their cars.

Moreover, the high customization of these cars as per the buyer’s expectations has further increased the waiting period for these cars. “Many exclusive options like special colors, matching painted interior and initials of the owner embossed extend the delivery time for Porsche cars,” says Porsche India director Ashish Chordia.”
