Volkswagen Group-owned Italian sports car manufacturer Lamborghini has got the go-ahead from its country’s government to commence the production of Urus, the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) that has been on the cards for a long time. The permission from the Italian government means that Lamborghini start production of Urus in Sant’agata Bolognese, which is the hometown of the firm and has a manufacturing facility.

The manufacturing of Lamborghini Urus will result in the employment of over 300 people along with tax break and incentive exchange of up to US $98 million. Notably, the paperwork is still going on and details regarding this deal are being worked upon at the moment.

According to a report by Business Standard, Stephan Winkelmann, the head of Lamborghini, and Rupert Stadler, Audi head, are likely to appear with Matteo Renzi, the Italian Prime Minister, in a press conference that announces the same.

The Italian car maker has pinned high hopes on the Urus SUV and it might churn out to be a top-seller for Lamborghini, according to experts. A relevant precedent is already present in the market as Porsche, another sports car manufacturer, managed to break this barrier by launching the Cayenne, which performed exceptionally well. Also, sales and demand of SUVs has gone up in the recent past and the firm would like to capitalize on the same. Some experts feel Urus could go on to become the best-selling Lamborghini in the world.

Lamborghini is also likely to take assistance from its parent company Audi, which produces some of the best SUVs in the world. Though launch of the Lamborghini Urus is yet to be decided, it is believed that following consultation with the VW Group, the car could see light of showrooms in international markets in a couple of years’ time.
