      Jeep Wrangler Unlimited spotted on-test in India, launch likely early next year

      Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has been keen on launching the Jeep brand in India in 2016. This time around sources have spotted the production version of the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited near company's Ranjangaon plant. Sometime next year, apart from the Jeep Wrangler, the company may also usher-in the Jeep Grand Cherokee and a compact SUV in India. The Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler would be launched as CBUs (completely built units) while the compact SUV may also be manufactured locally and debut sometime in 2017.

      Under the hood, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is likely to get 2.8 litre, CRDI, DOHC 16V, 4-cylinder inter-cooler turbo diesel engine that would be mated to five-speed automatic transmission and generate about 200 bhp of power at 3600 rpm and 460Nm torque at 1,600-2,600rpm. The vehicle would also get ‘Command-Trac' which is an advanced 4X4, manual, part-time, shift-on-the-fly transfer case.

      For safety and easy handling of rocky terrain, the vehicle gets electronic stability control, ABS, dual airbags and disc brakes on all four-wheels. The vehicle also gets high-tensile steel roll bars, 5-link solid axles with coil springs, height adjustable pre-tensioning front seatbelt and heavy-duty monotube gas-charged shock absorbers. Information on the pricing aspect is not yet released by the company and it could be offered around Rs 35 Lakh.
