The Jeep Compass has finally been launched in India and is available in the price range of Rs 14.95 lakhs to Rs 20.65 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). It is the entry-level product from the American automaker and is the first one to be made in India at Fiat’s recently retooled plant in Ranjangaon, outside Pune. You have quite a number of options in that price bracket and we enlist each one of them, in detail.

      Jeep Compass Sport-Rs 14.95 lakh (P) and Rs 15.45 lakh (D)

These are the entry-level models for the Compass and are offered only with a front-wheel drive and the six-speed manual. Here the petrol model takes on the likes of the Hyundai Creta in its top spec form as well as mid-level models of the Elantra. Additionally, you can also have the one above the base variant of the 2017 Octavia. In terms of bigger vehicles you can have the Innova Crysta in the GX diesel or VX petrol variants, which is actually a pretty good deal as you get a big feature list, diesel AT and seven-seats on offer. In addition, you also get the top-of-the-line Mahindra Scorpio S10 4WD which at Rs 15.36 lakh is quite close to the price of the diesel sport model.

Jeep Compass Longitude and Longitude (O) (Rs 16.45 lakhs and Rs 17.25 lakhs)

This is a diesel only variant of the Compass SUV and is offered with the 2.0-litre engine which has been mated to a six-speed manual. The optional pack is priced Rs 80,000 over the standard Longitude model and for this Jeep has added roof rails, dual zone climate control, bigger screen for the infotainment system, air filter and some cosmetic addition both on the inside and outside as a part of the deal.

For the price of the standard Longitude model you can have the Elantra in the SX petrol manual trim or the Corolla Altis in the G AT trim which is actually priced the same way as the Compass Longitude variant.  In terms of seven-seaters you can have XUV500 in the W8 AT trim or the Hexa in the XT 4X4 trim.

The optional model competes with almost the same cars but in higher trim levels. Here it is the Elantra SX petrol AT, Corolla GL petrol, Skoda Octavia 1.4 TSI Style, Innova Touring Sport diesel MT and the Mahindra XUV 500 W10 AWD AT model with the black interior pack.

      Jeep Compass Limited

Jeep has placed a large emphasis on the top-of-the-line models in the Compass range and has thus introduced six variants (2 petrol, 4 diesel) for the Limited trim level. In addition, this is the only variant where the petrol gets an AT option and the diesel gets the option of 4X4. Given its large price range, we will look at the petrol and diesel options separately.

The petrol Limited and Limited (O) trims are priced at Rs 18.70 lakhs and Rs 19.40 lakhs respectively. The price of the standard model gets you either the top of the line petrol Octavia or even the Style diesel MT variant of the same car. In terms of bigger cars you can also have the 2.4 ZX AT petrol or diesel MT version of the Innova Crysta. The Limited optional variant is priced Rs 60,000 more and for this kind of cash you have the Innova Crysta Touring Sport petrol and the VW Jetta in the highline diesel MT trim.

The diesel range fall into a wider net and here prices start at Rs 18.05 lakhs for the Limited variant while the top spec 4X4 model with all the bells and whistles has been priced at Rs 20.65 lakh. For this kind of money it’s the top of the line Octavia, Innova Crysta as well as odd balls like the Volkswagen GTI. The Compass’ main rival, the Hyundai Tucson, starts in this price bracket and for this kind of money you get the base petrol and diesel models.
