Jaguar Land Rover, the British luxury auto maker owned by Tata Motors, has introduced its locally produced XF saloon in the Indian auto market, which has been built at the company’s Pune unit. At a price of Rs. 44.5 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai), the model is highly anticipated to strike chords with the hearts of Indian buyers. As the model will be now locally made, its price has been reduced by around Rs. 12 lakhs.
A senior official of the company was quoted as saying, “The initial Pune-built Jaguar XF models will feature the company's acclaimed 2.2-litre diesel engine, which is coming to the Indian market for the first time. The Jaguars will be built alongside Land Rover Freelander 2 vehicles, which have been produced in Pune since May 2011.”
Reportedly, the model will come equipped with a 2.2 litre diesel engine, which will be the second JLR model in the Indian market with such configuration. The locally built model will feature an eight-speed automatic transmission system for utter convenience of the driver. The new Jaguar model will be produced at the sidelines of Land Rover Freelander 2 Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), which has already been into production process since May 2011 at Pune.
Speaking on this new initiative of the auto maker, the Vice President at Jaguar Land Rover India, Rohit Suri said, “Our best-selling models in India are the Land Rover Freelander 2 and the Jaguar XF and this has driven the move to build these products locally. So we are now delighted to offer this car (XF) as a locally built product with a new engine for this market, which will enable us to provide our customers with a wider choice of competitively priced models.”
According to sources, the new Jaguar XF will feature several world-class advancements, which will add to the comforts and convenience of passengers. These advancements include rear view camera, navigation system, TV tuner and rear screen electric blind. Currently, the petrol and diesel versions of XF model are assimilated with 5.0 litre and 3.0 litre engine, respectively, and are priced around Rs 1 crore and Rs. 57 lakhs (all prices are ex-showroom, Mumbai).
