The market is filled with devices which boast of reducing the fuel consumption in automobiles. However, a cost-effective technique to enhance the mileage in four wheelers has been developed by Indian scientist, Prof. Y.K. Vijay. At present, Mr. Vijay is serving the University of Rajasthan as Director of Centre for Development of Physics Education.  On his Nissan Sunny 1988 model car, he conducted this experiment, and the result has been exemplary.

Catalytic Fuel Production Kit (CFPK) has been used by him in the process. By producing combustible hydrogen, the equipment reduces consumption of conventional fuel and minimises the usage of fossil fuel.  Another element of hydrogen results when this fuel is provided to the available fuel. This innovation is backed by the principle of water electrolysis. The electric current passing through the water decomposes water (H2O) into hydrogen gas (H2) and oxygen (O2). In this method, common salt is used as electrolyte.

For last one and a half years, CFPK is being used by Professor Vijay in his car. Hence, it is a live example of the technique developed by him. As per Prof. Y.K. Vijay, increase in fuel economy has been around 10 to 15 %. Those who wish to install this device in their four wheelers need to pay a small amount of Rs. 10,000 approximately. This equipment will provide relief to the users who are affected by constant fuel increase. Professor Vijay has tested the technique in petrol and LPG cars successfully. However, the use of this method in diesel cars is still under process.
