French car maker Renault has snapped its ties with Mahindra in the Indian market and had decided to go on its own. It is developing India specific car which will be introduced in the country by 2013. "At present, we are at the conceptualisation stage for a car which would meet the requirements of the Indian market," Renault India Chief Executive Officer Sudhir Rao said.

Rao did not specify the segment where the car will be placed stating that the plans are still at a very premature stage. He further stated that the car will be definitely conceptualised and developed in India but it will cater to global market demands and will be sold in other emerging markets as well.

The company will launch small cars, based on its alliance partner Nissan's platform in 2012, Marc Nassif said on the sidelines of an SIAM’s automobile conference. Initially, Renault will launch its sedan model Fluence in India followed by its SUV model Koleos. It has planned to introduce its small hatchback model by 2012 in the domestic market. It is currently investing around Rs 4500 crores in developing its manufacturing unit near Chennai in alliance with Japanese car maker Nissan.
