The upcoming 800 cc small car from South Korean car maker Hyundai, which was initially codenamed HA, is now all set to be launched in the country with a new name – Eon. Speculated as the biggest rival of Maruti Alto, the Hyundai Eon is expected to hit the Indian roads by the end of this year.
The Hyundai Eon will be placed below the segment of Santro, where it will be competing with the likes of Maruti Alto, Chevrolet Spark and even Tata Nano. It is speculated to be launched in the price segment of sub Rs 2.5 lakh, considerably lower compared to the Santro.
The car was recently spotted testing for a few occasions on the Indian roads, and from spy pictures it gives an impression of carrying a completely new design, not borrowing much from the other Hyundai cars.
Powered by an 800 cc engine, the Hyundai Eon will be blessed with higher fuel economy, lower emission level and impressive performance. The maximum power that Hyundai Eon engine will be delivering could be near about 50 bhp, making it the least powerful car in Hyundai’s India portfolio.
In a bid to save its stronghold in the segment, Maruti is also planning to roll-out a small car in the Alto’s segment, which will be taking on with the likes of Hyundai Eon.
