Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has initiated the planned pace up in production of the diesel variants of its elegant sedan, Verna and the sporty hatchback, i20 as the automaker is buoyed by the increasing demands for the diesel powered cars post release of the 2012-13 Union Budget.

Hyundai Motor is also anticipating that the production level shoot up by around 50 percent from this month will curtail the long waiting periods for this bestselling models. The company will now be supplying an increased diesel cars volume of 10,500 units per month, which are 3,500 units more than the previous supply of 7000 units a month.

Mr. Arvind Saxena, the Director – Marketing & Sales, HMIL, was quoted as saying, "Increased supply will ease the waiting period substantially. We expect the waiting period for the diesel Verna to drop from 6 months to 2-3 months and for the new iGen i20 to about a month."

The increased supply has been scheduled to actualize in tandem with the increased diesel engine imports from South Korea. On this move, Mr. Saxena added, "Our customers have shown great patience, they have waited for many months, we owe it to them to deliver our cars at the earliest."

During the pre-budget release, the company held back its huge project investment of Rs. 400 crore that was contemplated towards establishment of a diesel engine plant. But after the announcement of Union Budget, this second largest automaker in India is now planning to chalk out the feasibility for the project initiation.
