Hyundai to unveil new compact SUV at Beijing Motor Show
Hyundai will be bringing forth its new SUV, dubbed, ix25 at the yet to be commenced Beijing Motor Show slated to begin from April 21,2014. Hyundai has been testing the vehicle aggressively, test mules have been snapped couple of times, spy shots of which have gone viral on inter-web. The compact SUV has been conceived on the new Hyundai i20 hatchback, the vehicle will cross swords with other popular compactSUVslike Duster andTerranoamong others. The SUV will have a length of 4.25 meters and a large wheelbase of 2,570mm offering capacious cabin. Hyundai will make ix25 available in both petrol and diesel engine options. Petrol and diesel variants of ix25 will come with two set of engines each. The petrol variant will be packed with a 1.2 litre and 1.4 litre petrol motors and the diesel version will be equipped with a 1.4 litre and a 1.6 litre dieselpowertrains.
Speculations are rife that instead of bringing ix25 to India, Hyundai could launch another compact SUV based on Grand i10 hatchback. Reason for not launching ix25 in India could be the high price tag that it will come with, since in India mass segment cars appeal more to the customers therefore the company might ponder to introduce a sub-four meter compact SUV with competitive price.

The new ix25 SUV will be endowed with the company’s Storm Edge design philosophy. The Storm edge design philosophy is the improved avatar of Hyundai’sfluidicdesign philosophy. Hyundai ix25 could borrow some of the design cues from Santa Fe premium SUV andIntardoConcept. On the exterior front, black grille bars, projector head lamps, LEDDRLsand new 5-spoke alloy wheels will be seen. To keep the rear side of the cabin cool, rear AC vents will be equipped in the SUV, besides this, all disc brakes will also be affixed. Hyundai is expected to offer ix25 with all wheel drive system.
Hyundai is planning to launch new ix25 in the global markets by the end of 2014. If the company at all thinks to launch the vehicle in India, it would happen somewhere around mid 2015. To confine the price within affordable tag, the company will assemble India-spec model at its manufacturing unit with most of the local content used for the production.
