Export increases by 70 per cent, boosts cumulative sales by 28 per cent

Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL), which holds the enviable position of being the second largest passenger car manufacturer in India, has shown a 10 per cent increase in domestic sales volumes. Despite plummeting sales in the international arena, the company was able to sell 69.8 per cent more cars in exports in November 2011 against the same month last year. This has enabled the largest car exporter of India to increase cumulative sales figures by 28.1 per cent this year as compared to November 2010.

The Korean manufacturer registered domestic sales of 35,000 units in November 2011, more than the 31,540 units it sold in the same month last year. The export volumes also grew largely in the same period, currently calculated as 22,080 units in comparison with 13,000 vehicles last year. Cumulatively, the sales figures stand at 57,080 units this November, versus 44,540 units in the same month in 2010.

Regarding the sales volumes of November 2011, Arvind Saxena, Director, Marketing and Sales, HMIL quipped, “In a challenging market we have been able to grow volumes and market share on the strength of our new launches -- Verna and Eon. Our immediate outlook on the market is not too bright as interest rates and fuel prices are unlikely to soften in the forseeable future.”

In November 2011, the segment-wise total sales for HMIL stood at: A2 segment 48,732 units (Eon, Santro, i10, i20); A3 Segment 8,223 units (Accent and Verna); A5 segment 3 units (Sonata Transform); Santa Fe (SUV) 122 units.

The company currently has a fully integrated production unit near Chennai, with advanced manufacturing, quality and testing facilities. The Indian arm of Hyundai is a huge part of the Korean firm's global ambitions, which registered 1 million exports since setting up shop in 1998. Currently, HMIL exports vehicles to more than 120 countries based in the EU, Africa, Middle East, Latin America and the Asia Pacific.

The company set up a second production facility having installed capacity of 3,30,000 units in February 2008 to meet the steadily increasing demand for its cars. The company is backed by a vast network of 338 dealers and 737 service points across the length and breadth of the country. In its endeavour to render the most advanced technology in the world to consumers, the company has also established a multi-million dollar research and development unit in Hyderabad. With this new unit, the company hopes to further enhance its automobile engineering prowess.
