The country’s second largest car maker, Hyundai India on Sunday revealed a few details of its much awaited upcoming small car – Hyundai Eon. The car is seen as a major competitor to the so far unchallenged Maruti Alto in the Indian market. The unconfirmed media reports claim that the Hyundai EON will be launched in the price range of Rs 2.50 to 2.60 lakh, where it will be taking on with the likes of Maruti Alto, Chevrolet Spark and Tata Nano. The car will be rolled-out in the country about one or two weeks earlier to the year’s biggest festival season Diwali. However, company is still quite on the pricing part and is saying that Hyundai EON will be offered with a very competitive price tag.

While speaking to the reporters recently, Mr. Arvind Saxena, Hyundai India, Director Sales & Marketing , said, "There is no car that is comparable with EON. Yes, it is an entry-level car but with no compromise. It is a very spacious car with a large boot - something that you get only in bigger cars. And most importantly it doesn't compromise on style."

Hyundai Eon will be powered by a 814 cc engine which is being claimed to offer a high fuel economy of 21.1 kmpl. While length of the car will be 3.5 m (same as of alto), it will be taller and wider as compared to Alto by 40 mm and 75 mm, respectively.

While further elaborating the positioning of the EON in the Hyundai’s portfolio in India, Mr. Saxena said, "The Eon will expand our market share by cannibalizing into our competitors' products. Santro is positioned very differently from the Eon. We have no plans of withdrawing the Santro when it is doing so well."
