      Hyundai Creta spied testing; launching soon

      Hyundai India that recently announced the name of its Global compact SUV – the Creta – has started testing the car on Indian roads. Already on sale in the Chinese market, the Hyundai Creta compact SUV is likely to launch in India by July-August 2015.

      The Hyundai Creta will derive its power from a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder petrol and a diesel engine, which are the same found on the Verna sedan. While the former will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, the latter will feature a 6-speed manual gearbox. The base variant will get a 1.4-litre diesel engine.

      Based on the Hyundai ix25, the Creta will measure 4.27 meters in length. Feature list will include projector headlights with LED daytime running lights, diamond-cut 16-inch alloy wheels, a touchscreen infotainment system, a multifunction steering wheel, smart entry with push button start and automatic climate control. Safety features like ABS (anti-lock braking system), EBD (electronic brake-force distribution) and dual airbags with an optional side and curtain airbags will also be on offer.

      With high-level of localization (about 90%), the Creta will be manufactured at the company’s Chennai-based production plant. The Korean automaker might also export the vehicle to South Africa and several other Asian markets. Set to rival against the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Mahindra Scorpio and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, the compact SUV will be offered within the price bracket of Rs. 8 lakh – Rs. 10 lakh.
