The Japanese auto giant Honda Motors will be recalling about 2.49 million vehicles worldwide to repair a software related problem. The vehicles that will be called back include small cars, sport utility vehicles, minivans and even the popular Accord sedan. According to reports, the problem in software could lead to the damage in the automatic transmission system of the vehicles.

The company said in a statement on Friday that the total number of cars that will be recalled include 1.5 million vehicles in the United States, about 760,000 in China and 135,142 in Canada. The company will also be calling back vehicles in Europe, South America, the Middle East, Mexico and Puerto Rico. However, the recall will not affect the Honda Vehicles sold in its domestic market Japan.

A recent Consumer Report in US has said that it was not recommending the new Honda Civic 2012, making the Industry analysts mindful of an issue with the car. However, the company has said that it disagrees with the above assessment.

In a statement given on Friday, Chris Martin, Honda spokesman at the company's US headquarters in California, said that the recall was not a sign of deeper difficulties, but instead stemmed from extremely unusual circumstances. He added that the far majority of Honda consumers would never really encounter any issues in practice.

The Recall will affect the Accord Sedan sold globally for the model years 2005 to 2010.
