      Honda Motorcycles to open 500 new dealerships by FY13

      Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), the Indian unit of the japanese auto giant, said on Thursday that they will be aggressively expanding their dealership network in the Indian market in the smaller cities and towns. The company is planning to open as many as 500 dealers and sub dealers in the Tier-II and Tier-III cities. The network expansion plan of the company is a part of their aim to register a 30 percent growth in the current fiscal.

      Speaking to the reporters on Thursday, Mr. Y S Guleria, company's Vice-President (Sales & Marketing), said, "We will be adding 500 new dealers, sub-dealers in current fiscal which will take our network's total strength of 2,000. The main focus will be on expanding base in tier-II and tier-III cities."

      At present, HMSI has a 14 percent share in the Indian two-wheeler segment. The company is now aiming to achieve a sales figure of 27.5 lakh bikes and scooters as compared to 21 lakh units sold in the last fiscal.

      Meanwhile, the company is all set to commence operations at their new plant in Karnataka from April 2013, which will be having an initial capacity of 12 lakh units per annum.
