Honda's highly anticipated MPV, the Mobilio launched on July 23, 2014 has hit the bull's eye. Sources have revealed that within less than one month of vehicle's launch in domestic market, the MPV has roped in 13,800 bookings till date. Contributing majorly towards July sales, the Mobilio accounted for 3,365 unit sales in one week after its went on sale.
Introduced at a prelusive price of Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom price) for the base petrol variant, the seven seater MPV has struck the chord with Indian audience. Honda revealed at the time of Mobilio's launch that it will also bring highly equipped RS variant of the MPV which will be made available for sale effective September. However the RS variant will be available only in diesel engine option priced at Rs 10.86 lakh (ex-showroom price). The company is also contemplating shipping Mobilio to overseas markets such as South Africa, however export will begin only when demand in India is sufficed. Industry insiders have also revealed that due to influx of bookings, HCIL had to halt production of its yet another popular vehicle - City sedan this month that is also being produced at company's Greater Noida facility.
It is also being said that Honda Cars India Limited is thinking of shifting the City's production from Greater Noida to its Tapukara plant located in Rajasthan. HCIL will begin manufacturing new City sedan at its Tapukara plant effective September. Based on the Brio platform, the Mobilio offers ample cabin space to occupy seven adults comfortably. The company specifically worked on making the third row more comfortable that gives it an edge over its arch rival Ertiga.
