      HMSI becomes the top-selling brand across eight cities and one union territory

      Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India is now the number one selling two-wheeler brand across eight states and one union territory, as per latest data by SIAM for the first quarter of 2015-16. Honda is the number one selling two-wheeler brand in eight states Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Kerala, Punjab, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Goa and one union territory Chandigarh, the company said in a release, quoting the latest sales figures provided by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacture (SIAM).

      Honda has added three new states Gujarat, Punjab and Delhi to its number one tally this time, it added. Overall, Honda two-wheelers' all-India market share grew by two per cent to 26 per cent in first quarter of 2015-16. The company said within states, Honda's market share zoomed to over 50 per cent in two states and one union territory (Himachal Pradesh, Goa and Chandigarh).

      It crossed 40 per cent mark in two key states (Maharashtra, Gujarat) and was well above 30 per cent mark in an additional seven states (Delhi, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana), it said. Honda two-wheeler sales grew progressively in total of 28 states, including many motorcycle dominated states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Assam, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu, the company said.

      "In the first quarter of FY 2015-16, Honda grew 5 times faster than the industry. Honda is now the 'Most preferred 2-wheeler brand' in an impressive eight states and one Union Territory," Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India President & CEO Keita Muramatsu said. "Our strategy to launch many new models in both scooter and motorcycle segments, network expansion in smaller towns, increased flexibility in production mix to meet demand and top-of-mind brand recall has been well accepted in the market," he added.
