Hero MotoCorp. will be launching their first ever hybrid scooter, ‘Leap’ in the beginning of next year. The concept form was exhibited in January 2012 at the 11th Auto Expo followed by the near production version showcased at the 12th edition of Auto Expo held in the month of February this year. The company will manufacture 6,000 units of Leap on yearly basis at its manufacturing unit located in Gurgaon.
Depending on the response, the company might enhance its production capacity in coming time. The contemporarily designed Leap aims at the company’s overseas markets. Powering the hybrid scooter is an 11 Bhp traction motor and lithium-ion batteries. The newly developed 124 cc engine will be housed in the scooter. The hybrid scooter will come with a 3.0 litre fuel tank capacity so that the scooter can run on petrol if the rider is unable to recharge battery. Leap’s permanent magnet AC (PMAC) traction motor enables to pump out a top torque output of 60 Nm from nil. While running with the range extender the hybrid scooter attains a top speed of 100 kmph.
