The country’s largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp has it will be rolling-out the first fully self-dependent bike in the Indian market by year 2014. The new bike will be developed without taking any technological assistance from Hero Groups’ erstwhile partner Japanese Honda.

While speaking to the PTI recently, Mr. Pawan Munjal, Hero MotoCorp Managing Director and CEO, said, "We are working with different technology partners. Our first bike without Honda technology will be launched in 2014."

At present, Hero MotoCorp has a licensed agreement to use the technology of its erstwhile partner Honda by year 2014. Both parted their ways in year 2010 with Hero Group buying 26 percent stake of Honda in the joint venture Hero-Honda for Rs 3,841.83 crore.

On the question of launching a low cost bike in the Indian market, Mr. Munjal said, "We keep on working to push the cost down. I have never lost focus on reducing cost. You never know one day we may come up with a really low cost bike but that does not mean we are really working on it now."
