SIAM has recently released some statistical data, which has shown that the export markets for scooters have witnessed approximately a growth of 117.12 per cent on the basis of year-to-year sales. The scooter market (90 cc -120 cc) had witnessed sales of 87161 units in the Financial Year 2013-14. This number saw an enormous boost in the fiscal 2014-15 as the numbers reflected 189240 units.

Hero MotoCorp has been making the most of this enormous growth as it witnessed a phenomenal 356.24 per cent rise in its scooter exports. The company had exported 79956 units in the last fiscal as compared to only 17525 units in the previous one. Riding on these numbers, Hero MotoCorp surpasses its old rival Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) to become the largest exporter of scooters in India.

On the other hand, the fiscal was also good for HMSI as the company witnessed a growth in the scooter exports numbers. The company saw as many as 77814 units being exported as compared to 51932 units in the previous fiscal. This enabled HMSI to witness a growth of 49.84 per cent. Also, HMSI now stands as the second largest exported of scooters from the country.

However, the growth was linear for TVS Motor Company, with only 15570 units exported in the running fiscal, against the 11923 units in the previous. Suzuki Motorcycles India and Yamaha Motors were also in the limelight as both the companies grew in export numbers. While Suzuki had exported 5712 in FY 2014-15 as compared to a mere 699 in the previous, Yamaha rose from 1635 in the previous to 6271 in the last fiscal.
