Motorcycles, in particular, are loved by a majority of Indian buyers as they are easy to ride, affordable and fuel-efficient. In the past few years, a lot of foreign companies have entered the Indian market and some have been able to register good sales figures, thereby progressing continually. Although the market for luxury bikes is quite small, the impact of some brands in undeniable. Metropolitan cities, due to their level of development, have access to companies that are literally unknown in some parts. One such company that has a cult following in the country is Harley-Davidson, the legendary American motorcycle manufacturer.

Historically speaking, the inception of Harley-Davidson dates back over a hundred years, which is quite incredible. For a long time now, bikes from this company have set benchmark is their respective segments. The success of any product is understandable if its popularity transcends boundaries, something that Harley-Davidson bikes have managed to achieve. Another thing that makes Harley-Davidson stand out is that it has withstood the test of time, competition and generation. Bikes from this maker have a cross-generation appeal as they are loved by both youngsters and old people. Although this bike has its roots firmly placed in Indian minds since long, Harley-Davidson decided to venture in the country only recently. Headquarters of this firm in India are located in Gurgaon, a commercial hub in the state of Haryana.

People in metropolitans, in particular, have a penchant for purchasing luxury bikes and Harley-Davidson has an amazing following. Due to the small demand, the company had not planned to expand its operations in India till sometime ago. However, there has been a rise in demand for the same in recent years, which has given it the impetus to work towards growth. Currently, models sold by the brand in India include different categories like V-Rod, Touring and Sporster. Its line-up for 2013 comprises SuperLow, Iron 883 and Forty-Eight.

      Recently, Harley-Davidson launched 2014 Street Glide in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 29 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi). Available at all dealerships across the country, this bike has been brought to India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). According to sources, the American bike manufacturer has included as a part of its global project Project Rushmore, which is aimed at improving touring experience for all customers. Managing Director, Anoop Prakash, who was present at the launch of this bike, spoke about its prospects in India. "The new Street Glide is our premier offering for the Indian market and offers the perfect balance between custom touring style and long haul functionality," he was quoted as saying.
