      General Motors sales surge 17.35 percent in September

      At a time when most of the other car makers in the country are registering steep fall in sales, the Indian unit of the US based leading car maker General Motors has performed considerably well in the Indian market. The company managed to register a sales jump of 17.35 percent in the month of September 2011. The company managed to sell a total of 10,112 units during this month as compared to 8,617 units sold in the same month last year.

      The mass segment cars Spark and Beat remained major contributors in the company’s total sales during the month. The sales of lowest priced portfolio model Chevrolet Spark stood at 1603 units. On the other hand, the Beat remained the best selling model in the company’s India portfolio with sales stood at 5,261 units.

      The sales of other models of the company during the month were also considerably well as compared to the sales registered in the previous year. The sales of premium sedan Chevrolet Cruze stood at 814 units, considerably high as compared to the sales registered in the same month last year.  On the other hand, the sales of mid size sedan Chevrolet Optra Magnum stood at 325 units. Sales of entry level sedan Chevrolet Aveo stood at 192 units. The company managed to sell 1789 units of its popular sports utility vehicle Chevrolet Tavera during the month. The sales of luxury SUV Captiva stood at 128 units.
