Ford India, a unit of the US based leading car maker Ford Motors, has laid down the foundation of its new car and engine production facility in Sanand, Gujarat. The company has planned-up an investment of over $ 1 billion for this plant, which will be spread over an area of 460-acre. It will take about 2 year to complete the construction of this plant, and the company plans to start manufacturing operations at this facility by year 2014.
Initially, the new Gujarat production facility of the company will be having a capacity to roll-out 2,40,000 units and 2,70,000 engines. Besides the domestic market, the plant will also be catering the needs of overseas markets, where the company aims to export the cars and engines from this plant.
Speaking on the occasion, Michael Boneham, president & MD, Ford India, said, “We lay the foundation for Ford’s continued expansion in India, and plant the seed for a brighter future for our employees, suppliers, dealers and customers, and for the people of Gujarat and India."
he Gujarat plant of the firm will be made fully integrated for the process like support stamping, body assembly, trim, paint and final assembly. On the other hand, the paint shops of the plant will be blessed with the Ford’s quality improving 3-Wet technology paint processes and environmentally friendly rotational dip technology.
