International automobile exhibitions attract car enthusiasts as well as industry bigwigs from across the globe in huge numbers. Going by the popularity of these motor shows, well known car manufacturers bring forth to the audience, a perfect blend of innovation and technology by unveiling new models or pepped-up versions. On a similar note, one of the most influential motor shows was recently organised in Dubai, wherein a total of 108 cars, both regional and global, were showcased. Out of this accumulative number, some were concept cars that gave a glance into the distinct automotive designs, while others were models from high-profile brands, making their debut at the motor show.
An auto-major that certainly stood out and dazzled onlookers with its splendid engineering marvels was Ford. Two all-new vehicles launched by this American auto maker at the show were compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) EcoSport and mid-size sedan Fusion. Notably, Ford's unit in India has also done also well in the recent past. A recall of Ford India's performance in the country's Indian automobile market (as reflected by registering of healthy sale numbers on the back of EcoSport) is suggestive of the fact that the auto maker is slowing and steadily carving its own niche in the country.
The 2014 Ford Fusion boast of stunning looks, satisfying performance, hi-tech safety features and fuel efficiency, with capacious interiors and comfort aplenty. This sedan is loaded with driver-assistance technologies, such as lane keeping assist, active park assist, blind spot information system and adaptive cruise control. Ford Fusion boasts of a powerful 2.5-litre 4-cylinder powertrain that is mated to a 6-speed automatic and front-wheel-drive for enhanced on-road performance. The peak power output generated by the engine is of up to 175 bhp. The price of this sedan is expected to be approximately Dhs 85000. The auto company is also planning to clear path for its Ford Fusion EcoBoost version to join the existing line-up. This EcoBoost version of Ford Fusion is likely to get a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that can generate a peak power of up to 231 bhp. The retail price of this variant is expected to be around Dhs 140000 in top trim.
Exteriors of Ford Fusion make for an appealing look with a distinct front façade and elongated stylish headlights. Grill with chrome surround and fog lamps further add to its appealing appearance. Interiors too are quite lavish to make for an enticing cabin entry.
Incidentally, the 2014 Ford EcoSport takes a decent share from the Indian version. It features a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine that is mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or 6-speed automatic transmission. This compact SUV is being offered in three trim levels. The basic manual model carries a price tag as low as Dhs 58,000 while the top automatic Titanium trim costs around Dhs 80000. Just like its Indian counterpart, the vehicle has a bold familiar stance with perky headlights and rugged front grill with lot of chrome surround. High ground clearance of this utility vehicle ensures easily driving on uneven surfaces.
