The Indian car market, after a disappointing 2013, is finally getting back on track with models across all segments performing really well and the festive season just about to kick in to take sales to a couple of notches higher. Last year was really tough with low sales, poor demand and some controversies. However, a couple of models turned out to be bright spots and one of them was the Ford EcoSport, which has turned out to be a market defining car, single-handedly bringing about a revolution in the compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment. This car, which comes in both petrol and diesel versions, has been a shining star along with the Hyundai Grand i10.

Ford EcoSport was launched in June 2013 after the American car manufacturer decided to try entering a new segment with the existing ones not performing well. Renault Duster had already been launched and was managing to create a fine customer base, which was an encouraging sign for Ford. Within around 17 days of the launch, Ford managed to garner 30000 bookings and the vehicle was an instant hit.

The appearance of this model is highly conspicuous with the bold honey-comb grille and attractive headlights making for a combination of classic yet modern SUV look. Other than looks, the aerodynamics of the car along with its suitability for Indian roads have clicked with customers in the country. This car comes in three variants including two petrol and one diesel, thereby offering a multitude of choices to buyers.

Ford EcoSport petrol has two variants, which are powered by 1.0-litre EcoBoost and 1.5-litre engines. While the 1.0-litre EcoBoost powered engine variant churns out 123 BHP of output, the other one delivers around 110 BHP. However, the best Ford EcoSport version, according to experts, is the one powered by 1.5-litre diesel engine, which produces an output of 90 BHP.
