      Ford announces recall of nearly 8,000 new cars over parking brake issues

      American carmaker Ford has issued a safety compliance recall for about 8,000 vehicles in North America, including certain 2015-2016 Ford Explorer, 2015 Taurus and Flex. The list also includes Lincoln MKS and MKT vehicles for an issue with the parking brake. As per the identified issue, the parking brake might not engage fully, which is a compliance issue with FMVSS 135 regarding brake systems. However, Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with this issue.

      Certain 2015-2016 Ford Explorer vehicles built at Chicago Assembly Plant, sometime between May 4, 2015 through May 23, 2015 have likely to be affected; some of 2015 Ford Taurus vehicles built at Chicago Assembly Plant; 2015 Ford Flex vehicles built at Oakville Assembly Plant; certain 2015 Lincoln MKS vehicles built at Chicago Assembly Plant built around the same period are reportedly affected; some of Lincoln MKT vehicles built at Oakville Assembly Plant, produced between May 4, 2015 to May 21, 2015.

      There are about 7,165 vehicles in the United States and federalized territories, whereas 799 are in Canada and one is in Mexico. The Dealers would be inspecting the vehicle and, if required, would also replace the parking brake control assembly at no additional cost to the customer.
