German car maker Audi recently hogged all the limelight as it was part of an activity that set a new Guinness world record. The brand with four rings achieved this record in collaboration with RAC, which is a driving assistance firm. Audi and RAC collaborated to set a record for travelling to the most number of countries on a single tank of fuel (14). The vehicle used in this challenge was an unmodified A6 TDI Ultra from Audi and it covered a journey of around 1865 km, which is quite incredible. Also, upon doing the math, the fuel economy delivered by the Audi A6 TDI Ultra turned out to be just under 27 kmpl. The drivers began this world-record setting journey on June 9 in Maastricht and ended it in Hungary on June 10.

The duo that was at the helm of this world record comprised motoring journalist Andrew Frankel and racer Rebecca Jackson. Both Frankel and Jackson drove non-stop for around 28 hours from Holland to Hungary. During the course of their journey, the duo and their Audi A6 TDI passed Italy, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Slovenia, France, Serbia, Belgium, Bosnia, Austria, Croatia, Germany and Lichtenstein.

In order to achieve the world record, it was required of the drivers to maintain an average speed of approximately 80.4 kmph, which proved to be really tough and taxing on the two. However, it was just one of the many obstacles the duo faced during their journey. They also had to face heavy traffic in a certain patch that was caused by accident along with a detour through mountains due to a closed tunnel.

Speaking after the feet, Andrew Frankel said, "I'm delighted to be part of the team that has set this record and would like to think it will stand for some time as we eked out every last mile from the A6's tank. From an endurance point of view the challenge actually proved to be far harder than both Rebecca and I imagined it would be. Despite sharing the driving we were on the road almost continuously for 28 hours, focused on maintaining an average speed of around 50mph. In order to do this you have to be fully aware of what's going on around you and anticipate what could happen with the traffic ahead. While it was normal driving in one sense, it was also a very different type of driving, but nevertheless demanding."
