The enthusiasm among bike lovers of the country was visible in the recent Cochin Carnival 2014’s event of Beach Bike Racing. The local bikers from the state of Kerala and other neighboring states were the official partners at the event.

The 30th edition of the race did face a lot of difficulties. The problems began when the authorities didn’t grant permission on time, which caused a lack of sponsors. These circumstances led to a less number of bikers competing for the prizes worth Rs. 30,000. Despite all these problems, there still were more than enough bikers who had been practicing on the beach for the event. A valid driving license is a necessity for any driver willing to participate in the racing event.

It is evident that the bikes used for the event are not specially designed. With just few modifications, the regular bike gets ready to run on sand, the major modification being the special tires possessed with huge rubber blocks to cause a better grip on the sand.

The drivers at the event were both professionals as well as amateurs, trying their luck and caliber to win the race. The crowd seemed inspirational and cheered whenever they cited a biker coming towards them. Besides all the problems faced by the organizing committee, the event was a huge success, leaving a benchmark for the future years of this event.

A biker at the race said that the event was a huge success. He also told that he had been participating in the event for the past 15 years, owing to his love and dedication for bikes. He also hopes to participate in the event in the future too. Talking about the technicalities, he informed the press that minor tuning of the engine along with the addition of extra rubber on tires for extra grip is also done so that additional power could be churned out of the engine.
