KTM has been able to make a name for itself in very less time. With increasing demand for the KTM bikes in European countries, the official KTM dealer in Thane region was caught exporting bikes to China, which were further sent to European countries. If the case is considered, KTM officially exports its bikes to these countries, which makes individual exporting of bikes a violation against the interests of the company.

The company’s first step was to cancel the licence of the dealer as soon as the case got into the limelight. KTM bikes are produced at the Bajaj-KTM plant situated near Pune. The Duke and RC models in 125, 200 and 390 cc variants are sold in the country as well as exported around the globe. The shipping costs, excise duties, taxes and margins, etc. make the bikes available in a foreign country at a price double than that available in India.

It is thought that the dealer was contacted by European buyers, and in order to make a few extra bucks, the dealer accepted the deal and started exporting these bikes secretly. Now as the license of the dealer is cancelled, he is trying to sell the RC8 superbike, which was kept for display at the official showroom. RC8 has no yet been homologated in India, which has made the sale of the super bike impossible. People residing in Thane region who own a KTM bike will have to travel some extra miles to get their bikes serviced and repaired as the alternate dealer in Navi Mumbai remain their only ray of hope.
