Luxury car thefts across the globe is not an unknown incident. But it is not too often that local mechanics have been a major support to such thieves. The Indore city police has recently directed the suspect radar on mechanics who have been hand in glove with inter-state vehicle thieves as they are the ones who can indeed devise new ways to break through the high-tech security system of swanky cars.

The police while analyzing the trend in thefts noticed that luxury cars were lifted soon after they were sent to the workshops for technical check-ups. The most recent case being involving the SUV theft owned by IPL cricketer Anand Rajan in just about two hours after purchase. In his case it was seen that the SUV was sent to workshop twice for a complete technical inspection before it was handed over to Rajan. The second key was reportedly replaced with the one of some other vehicle. Speaking more on the occassion, Pradip Singh Ranawat, Lasudia police station in charge said, “Employees at Sagar Automobile showroom and workshop are involved in vehicle lifting.”

Another affected businessman named Pankaj Sanghvi, whose SUV was lifted right outside his own residence, he said, “I suspect involvement of mechanics at the service workshop as the vehicle was lifted just few days after it was sent for repair work. I inquired it with other people also and found out that their vehicles were lifted after they were sent for service.”
